“Understanding Community Development in Bury Park”

We are very happy to announce our next exciting project, “Understanding Community Development in Bury Park”, supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund.

We are organising a number of activities around this project including researching and archiving the origins of BYL (Bangladesh Youth League) and BWP (Bengali Women’s Project) and the growth of community activism from this perspective in the local area.

Young people involved in our CYCD Youth Clubs and local schools will undertake research, interview and film-making training to deliver this project and will be interviewing community activists in February half-term 2015.

We shall also be researching the history of BYL in the UK and with our relationship and joint projects with Sylhet in Bangladesh.

We will be developing an Exhibition for Luton based on this project as well as celebrating with two events:

  • BYL 35 Years Celebration Event at CYCD in Saturday 29 August 2015
(Live Music, Dance, Heritage Exhibition, Children Fun Activities & Entertainers, Henna, Face Painting, Stalls and Arts & Crafts)
  • Launch of the Exhibition to sponsors in October 2015 (date to be confirmed)
